About Us
Elwing Works, llc was launched in 2018 by Jonathan and Jennifer Elwing.
Growing up in the country building barns and doing construction work alongside his dad, Jonathan has been building and creating since he was old enough to hold a hammer. After putting himself through school at the University of Oregon, where he studied printmaking and sculpting and earned his degree in Fine Arts, Jonathan paid off his school loans by taking a job as a Project Manager for a construction and energy retrofitting firm. It was there that he honed his construction and business skills, and realized he could combine that with his talent as an artist through home renovation. He bought an old farmhouse and restored it from top to bottom, breathing new life into it with his artistry and craftsmanship.
And when his beloved dog Tivi (who was the matchmaker who "introduced" him to Jennifer) started slowing down, Jonathan found a new niche for his talent: woodwork projects. It was a little green custom wagon he built for Tivi that inspired many future woodwork and furniture projects, and solidified Jonathan's goal of starting his own business where he could build and create.
Jennifer, also a University of Oregon graduate, left her career in marketing in 2011 to care for her mom who was suffering from Alzheimer’s. When her beloved mom passed away a few years ago, she set out to start a new career. This time around though she wanted something where she could combine her professional experience with her love for animals. With years of independent animal rescue work and a newfound passion for TNR of feral cats, she knew that she and Jonathan could combine their skillsets and shared love of animals to create a business together. So in 2018 Elwing Works was born with the goal of creating things that enhance the lives of animals, as well as providing carpentry and home repair services.
A favorite project for the Elwings has been their Catios, which have also become quite a hit with Central Oregonians. As such, Elwing Works has grown to primarily focus on these enclosures as the heart of their business. Though they are still happy to offer custom woodwork projects and home repair services in between Catio builds!
